We are roughly around 1740. And so, there are two shopkeepers. They work right next to each other. They have customers, it's starting to get dark.

It is time for Mincha. They hear: " Mincha, come to the synagogue." And so Judah quickly closes his shop to go and pray. But Shimon, it's difficult, he has people there. "Wait a few more seconds, I need to finish some business here.""I'm not going to turn these people away.""I'll wait, I'll wait a few seconds." Judah goes out, he says to himself, "Ah, thank God, I closed the shop.""I managed to overcome my yetzer hara, my evil inclination.""And him?

Ah, he won't close, he'll forget to do Mincha again.""Ah,""he is too, too weak, that one." And so, in Judah's heart, it filled with pride, and it becomes night. And Shimon says, "Oh, it's dark, I missed Mincha, I missed Mincha." He regrets, "Why did I fail? Why did I forget?" And there, he says, "Well, since I missed it, I forgot, I will say the Amidah twice for Arvit, the evening prayer.""But I am ashamed." "Why did I let myself get caught?""Why did I fall for the bad trap?""Just

to earn a few, a few, a few coins?""My God , I am ashamed to stand before You." His heart is broken. He says, "My God, open my mouth, open my lips, I will pray before You, please." And there the Tzadik said: you have this person here, who said his prayer, head bowed, heart broken, it was even greater than the one who went to pray Mincha with pride, with contempt for the other.

It is true that he should have prayed on time, but his evening prayer was so broken-hearted, so sincere, that it rose to heaven. As the verse says, God is close to someone with a broken heart . God will not put him to shame. Do you understand, my students?

Do not begin the Amidah automatically. Know before whom you stand; before Hashem. Hashem loves a broken heart. Shalem, there is no heart more complete than the heart of a broken Jew.

That is beautiful. There is no heart that is whole. There is no heart more complete than the heart of a broken Jew. When it is broken, that is when it becomes complete.

That is when it is pure. That is when it is whole with Him.
