The Torah has a wonderful piece of advice for life’s troubles: Come into the ark. The Baal Shem Tov asks: What is this ark? Not just Noah’s original ark, but an ark is also a word. The Baal Shem Tov says: Come into the word, into the words of Torah and prayer.

When a Jew wakes up in the morning, says "Modeh Ani" or the morning blessings, he prays—not just to say the words, but to enter, to come inside the words. For then there is intention, there is a soul within these words, and it gives the Jew the inner recognition, the consciousness that everything comes from the Holy One, blessed be He. And this saves him, it saves him, it brings him into an ark. Even if there is a flood outside, the Jew knows he is connected to the One who spoke and the world came into being, to the Holy One, blessed be He.

And then the troubles— whether physical or spiritual, perhaps public responsibilities or matters of helping others, but they are bothersome and occupy a person—when a person enters the ark and has time for inner study and has intention in the words of the blessing and prayer, he is protected. He is inside the ark; he is connected to the Holy One, blessed be He. But let us not forget to bring another Jew into our ark so we can be saved from the flood, and consequently, there will be true contentment for the Holy One, blessed be He, and we will merit the true and complete redemption. A blessed and peaceful Shabbat.
