Sometimes it seems that our lives require some higher power from us, a power of self-sacrifice in the routine things of life. An interesting thing is that we see that even getting organized with kids, academic success, or perseverance, requires a very, very high power from us that, sometimes, when it is missing, God forbid, we lose our focus, we lose our patience. A very important power. In our Torah portion, Parshat Vayera, our father Abraham gives the world something that never existed in the world before.

He introduces to the world a concept called self-sacrifice, through the binding of Isaac. Our Sages tell us that this self-sacrifice reached the seed of Abraham, every one of us, in our inner, soulful DNA. Each one of us has a spark of self-sacrifice here that is ready to be put into action. The beauty is if we know how to put it into action within our daily lives.
And what is self-sacrifice? Self-sacrifice is the surrendering of the will. When a person surrenders their will that runs in one direction, they steer it in another direction, to the good and right place. So we see that in our morning prayers, we mention the passage of the binding every day, precisely because of this matter, so that one will always remember that they are in the world and in the routine.
And you don't always need self-sacrifice to jump into a fiery furnace; you do, however, need a higher power to succeed in our daily lives, and that is within us. The passage of the binding instills in us this point that we are a people of self-sacrifice, the sons and daughters of our father Abraham. We have the power , we need to put it into practice, with God's help, to bring redemption. Be blessed, have a peaceful and blessed Shabbat.
